Address and Location:
While in hospital, some patients may need to have a vascular access procedure and may require the services of the Vascular Access Team (VART). A vascular access procedure involves the insertion of a flexible thin plastic tube, or catheter, into a blood vessel to provide an effective way of getting blood or delivering medications and nutrients into a patient's bloodstream.
The Vascular Access Team is located at the Juravinski Hospital, the Hamilton General Hospital and McMaster University Medical Centre. Vascular Access services are provided to those patients with complex vascular access needs. The team members specialize in placing Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICC Lines) for patients who need a long-term vascular access device.
