The occupational therapists are supported by an occupational therapist assistant (OTA), who has attained academic credentials as an Occupational Therapist Assistant and works under the direction of the treating OT.
The Adult Wheelchair and Seating Clinic team had a dedicated wheelchair and seating focus and is not diagnostic specific. The Clinic team includes the client, OT and OTA, and may include family/caregivers, vendor of client choice and multitude of others including community therapist, custom seating technician, manufacturer representatives, physicians and other members of the client's health care team. Upon receipt of a doctor's referral, the client is admitted to the Adult Wheelchair and Seating Clinic for assessment of their seating and positioning needs and prescription as indicated.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Is there a wait list?
Usually, yes, but it fluctuates, and all referrals are reviewed and prioritized depending on need. Referrals meeting a high priority will usually be seen within a 2-week period. Priority status is designated to a referral if the client has a degenerative disease, if there is skin breakdown and if there are safety issues.
How long will the process take?
The process varies depending on the issue(s) and equipment required. It is best to talk to the therapist at the first visit about timelines and any concerns you may have related to timing. If you are applying to funding agencies for funding, it is important to note that once the paperwork is sent in, it can take 3-4 months to obtain a response prior to ordering your final equipment.
Why do I have to come to the clinic?
The clinic's services are usually requested because the wheelchair and seating needs are too complex to be looked at adequately in the home. The clinic environment provides the necessary space, equipment and resources to meet your needs.
I'm not sure if my referral is appropriate, what should I do?
The Clinic' staff are always available to discuss your referral with you.
