Cultural and Diversity Resources for Health Care Professionals

HCCI-Hamilton Centre for Civic Inclusion was asked by HHSC to provide a resource listing for Health Care Professionals to be included on the new Clinical Connect Portal. We are pleased to announce that site has been updated as of September 2009. Thanks to HHSC-Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant LHIN-EHealth and North Hamilton Community Health Centre who provided financial assistance to hire a researcher we have added more resources and categories.

Canada is becoming a beacon of diversity and multiculturalism as more demographic changes become a reality in our communities. Businesses, service-providing agencies and institutions including the health sector are grappling with this growing reality. Health care facilities in various Canadian cities including Hamilton are serving many diverse patient populations and more health care providers are recognizing the challenge of caring for patients from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. With this in mind HCCI working with its Health Task Force has compiled resources to assist health practitioners build cultural awareness, and be able to provide language specific resources to their diverse patients.
