Volunteer Resources at McMaster University Medical Centre

McMaster University Medical Centre (MUMC) has one of Canada's most innovative Digestive Diseases programs, focused on specialized medical, surgical and research aspects of care.  In conjunction with McMaster University, this program conducts more research into digestive diseases than any other program in the country.

MUMC delivers a wide range of Women's Health services, including high-risk obstetrics and gynecology, to patients from a broad region. MUMC is also home to many of the programs and services of McMaster Children's Hospital.

McMaster Children's Hospital (MCH) is one of the top pediatric academic health science centres in Canada. Each year MCH serves the needs of more than 145,000 children and their families throughout south central Ontario and beyond. Founded in 1988, MCH has rapidly become a leader in pediatric evidence-based care, collaborative research and innovative leading-edge education.

Requirements To Become A Volunteer

To Become A Volunteer YOU MUST COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING 4 STEPS

Step #1 Applicants must:

  • Be at least 14 years of age and attending High School (some placements require 18+ years of age
  • Commit to one shift per week at a minimum of 1-4 hours
  • Commit to a minimum of 50 hours or six months

Only applicants notified of their success to be considered
for a suitable placement, will be instructed to proceed
with the additional requirements.

  • Complete the health clearance process which includes a 2 step TB test and updated immunizations.  (Forms will be provided)
  • Complete the screening process which includes 2 references and for some programs, police screening.
  • Attend a scheduled interview with Volunteer Resource Coordinator

Step #3 View E-information Session

This E-Information Session is designed to provide you with useful and important information to ensure your volunteer experience is a pleasant and safe one. The session also gives you a thorough overview to help you decide whether volunteering at HHS is the right choice for you. Please view in its entirety. If you would like a text copy of the session once you become a volunteer, notify the coordinator at your interview.

Step #4  Complete Application Form and Submit

By completing the application (which is accessible after viewing the E-Information Session), you hereby agree and acknowledge that you have viewed the accompanying video in it's entirety.

All volunteer information is held in strictest confidence and will be used only to match an individual to a suitable position and in the collection of statistical information. Complete this form at your own discretion and note that by submitting this application does not guarantee a volunteer position at HHS.

PLEASE NOTE:  Successful applicants only, will be contacted by Volunteer Resources staff with forms and information on how to complete the requirements to continue through the registration process as a HHS Volunteer.
