Mac Kids Miracle Weekend Celebrates Success |
| June 3, 2012 Hamilton, ON: This weekend individuals and corporations throughout the region helped Mac Kids celebrate its annual Miracle Weekend. Dedicated to raising funds in support of Mac Kids, Miracle Weekend provides a means to highlight the tremendous range of care provided at McMaster Children’s Hospital and share patient stories from throughout the region. It is also an opportunity for us to recognize the year-long generosity of our donors and celebrate the $5.49 million raised in 2011 on behalf of Mac Kids. The impact of all donations are felt each and every day as they enable the purchase of equipment and patient amenities. Financial contributions provide physicians and all staff with the necessary resources to provide essential and often-times live-saving care. “We are truly grateful for the tremendous support of all of our donors and corporate partners. Their support contributes to ensuring that Mac Kids remains one of the leading pediatric hospitals in Canada”, said Pearl Veenema, President and CEO of Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation. With the tremendous support of CHCH, live broadcast segments on June 1st were complemented by the broadcast of two very special documentaries. Additional print support by The Hamilton Spectator, and other regional media outlets ensured that our message reached a broad geographic audience. Our documentary children this year, Jackson and Megan represent a snap-shot of the diverse range of specialty care provided by the dedicated medical teams at Mac Kids to over 180,000 children from throughout the region each year. Their documentaries are now posted at www.mackids.ca. A new addition to Miracle Weekend this year was the inaugural Walk & Wheel for Miracles held on June 2nd at Pier 4 Park. This family friendly fundraiser included separate cycling courses for toddlers and children under nine, a 5K walk for all ages and a helmet safety clinic, sponsored by the Hamilton Police Service and Hamilton Public Health. More than 500 participants of all ages registered to help us raise more than $72,000, a tremendous accomplishment for an inaugural event. Donations can still be made at www.mackids.ca; or calling 1-866-622-5437. On behalf of the children and their families, thank-you for watching and donating to McMaster Children’s Hospital and supporting our goal of Child Health, Transformed. - ##- For more information: Tamara Pope Vice President, Marketing & Communications Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation 905-979-0325 popetamara@hhsc.ca To view a pdf copy of this release click here . |
