Services Provided:

The Same Day Surgery Unit (SDS) is where patients arrive the day of surgery. It consists of 23 stretcher bays viewable from the centralized nursing station.

Here patients and families will find a team of dedicated nurses who will prepare the patient for surgery (all paperwork will be completed, intervenous started, and pre-operative teaching).  Once the patient has been prepared for surgery, they then wait with their family in the SDS unit until the Operating Room is ready. Family is then directed to the O.R. waiting room where a volunteer will keep them informed. In the absense of a volunteer, use the phone to contact the Post Anesthetics Care Unit at extension: 43415.

After surgery, and following the Post Anestetic Care Unit, patients can expect to spend two to six hours in SDS, depending on type of procedure. Once recovered, patients are assessed and prepared for discharge.
