HIV Disclosure

The decision to disclose your HIV status is very difficult.  Who to tell, what to say, when to tell and how much to tell are all very challenging decisions. The most common situations that pose a risk of HIV transmission are:

  • Unprotected sexual intercourse
  • Sharing injecting equipment e.g. needles or syringes

HIV Disclosure & Children

  • Disclosing either your HIV status or your child's can be frightening and stressful.
  • Like any difficult conversation, talking to your child or children about HIV takes careful planning.  You might want to ask someone you trust to help you
  • Your doctor, or someone else you can trust, can help you prepare
