A message from Craig Laviolette, Board Chair of Hamilton Health Sciences

On behalf of the Hamilton Health Sciences Board of Directors, welcome to the Hamilton Health Sciences website. Hamilton Health Sciences is proud to serve residents of Hamilton and Central South and Central West Ontario.  My fellow Board members and I consider it an honour to serve the Hamilton Health Sciences family of hospitals by representing the interests of the hospitals as well as the patients, staff and communities who rely on them.

With six unique hospitals and a regional cancer centre, Hamilton Health Sciences understands the value of partnerships and working together to ensure that patients have access to the most comprehensive health care programs and services possible.  Over the last few years, Hamilton Health Sciences has continuously focused on finding efficiencies and improving the co-ordination and delivery of its care.  In addition, we have established the Bay Area Health Trust, which is an independent public/private sector partnership designed to generate revenue to support our hospitals.  All of this has been done with the objective of creating a system that works for patients and their families, as well as the health care workers who are dedicated to caring for them.

As a Board, we are committed to strengthening our relationships with our health care partners and the community to help find further efficiencies and opportunities to support the health care system in our community and the province. 

Recruiting and retaining health professionals is an ongoing challenge for hospitals throughout Ontario. Hamilton Health Sciences is committed to supporting and training tomorrow's health care professionals. Thanks to positive and collaborative ties with McMaster University's Faculty of Health Sciences, we are able to honour this commitment by working with local students and an innovative academic partner.

Planning for the future is also an essential part of health care. In the coming months and years, you will see a significant reinvestment in Hamilton Health Sciences' buildings and facilities.  Hamilton Health Sciences has embarked on a $250 million reinvestment plan that will update and modernize the hospital's buildings and better equip them to meet the challenges of the future.

The years ahead promise to be exciting and, as Chair of the Hamilton Health Sciences Board, I am looking forward to working with the hospital leadership and our community partners to ensure health care in Hamilton is the best it can be.
