UPDATE: OCT. 5 - C. difficile outbreak on a medical unit (E3), at the Juravinski Hospital site of Hamilton Health Sciences
October 5, 2012

MEDIA UPDATE

Issue:
C. difficile outbreak on a medical unit (E3), at the Juravinski Hospital site of Hamilton Health Sciences.

Status: Outbreak has been declared over.

We are pleased to report that there have been no new hospital acquired cases of C. difficile on E3 since September 7, 2012.

There were many individuals who contributed to effectively managing the C. difficile outbreak on E3 at the Juravinski Hospital, including our staff and physicians and representatives from Hamilton Public Health who readily provided their assistance and support. The enhanced C. difficile infection prevention and control measures that were put in place were effective in preventing spread of the disease.

Hamilton Health Sciences will remain attentive to essential infection prevention and control practices, including hand hygiene practices, hospital environmental cleaning, surveillance and good antibiotic stewardship.
