Quality of Life and Advanced Care

Quality of Life & Advanced Care (QoLA Care) aims to partner with children affected by serious health conditions and their families in an effort to optimize quality of life. Our program uses a holistic, interdisciplinary approach to maximize opportunities for positive quality of life (joy), to overcome health-related obstacles to positive quality of life, and to prevent and eliminate causes of negative quality of life (suffering) – now and in the future. Living with a complex health condition means living with uncertainty; our program helps families to be best prepared for whatever may come through counselling, planning, and support in decision-making.

For more information, visit the Quality of Life and Advanced Care Program page for patients and families.

Patients/Conditions To Refer

Appropriate referrals to Quality of Life & Advanced Care include families living with a child with a serious health condition, which is significantly affecting or likely to affect their quality of life or lead to a shortened life. This may include fetuses, infants, children, teenagers, and some young adults. Children commonly referred may have lives affected by: genetic conditions, significant neurologic impairment, cancer, metabolic disease, perinatal//neonatal complications, organ failure, and others.

QoLA Care partners with families and their current health care providers and community supports with the goal of forming a robust network of care.
