Tracey MacArthur is President and CEO of Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS), one of Canada’s leading academic and research hospitals. Tracey brings 15 years of senior health care experience to her role.

Tracey is a distinguished hospital executive with more than 25 years’ experience in progressive leadership positions at several prominent, research-intensive hospitals in Ontario including University Health Network and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, having served at the latter as President and Chief Executive Officer prior to joining HHS.

Tracey is a mission-driven, results-oriented leader who maintains a strong focus on quality improvement and patient and workforce safety. She has demonstrated experience advancing research and teaching in hospital organizations with an emphasis on collaboration and relationship-building. She is a champion of embedding equity, diversity and inclusion principles in all aspects of an organization’s operations.

Tracey holds a Master of Science degree in Quality Improvement & Patient Safety from the University of Toronto, an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Waterloo, and a Masters Certificate in Project Management from the Schulich School of Business at York University.

Dr. Stephen Kelly
Interim Executive Vice President (EVP), Academic and Chief Medical Executive (CME)

Dr. Kelly studied medicine at Cambridge University and St Mary’s Hospital in the United Kingdom. After finishing General Surgery training in the U.K. (including a Masters degree in Surgery at Southampton University), he completed a Colorectal Surgery Fellowship at the University of Toronto and joined the Faculty of the Department of Surgery at McMaster University. Dr. Kelly has been a General and Colorectal Surgeon at HHS since 2003. Prior to his Surgeon-in-Chief role, he was Site Chief of Surgery, Juravinski Hospital and Head of Surgical Oncology at HHS. Dr. Kelly is an Associate Professor of Surgery at McMaster University and was previously Associate Chair of Education, Department of Surgery at McMaster University.

Dr. Fayez Quereshy
Executive Vice President, Clinical and Site Lead, Hamilton General Hospital

A nationally award-winning surgeon, Dr. Fayez Quereshy is an academic surgeon-investigator with experience leading an extensive portfolio encompassing internationally-recognized programs at UHN including the Sprott Department of Surgery, the Ajmera Transplant Centre, and the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre among others in the acute care portfolio. Dr. Quereshy is also a practicing Surgical Oncologist at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, focused on gastrointestinal malignancies, specifically colorectal cancer. Dr. Quereshy is focused on safety and quality deliverables for patients, health-care professionals, and the system at large.

He joins Hamilton Health Sciences on a one-year secondment, during which time he will support our adult regional programs and will partner with medical leadership to advance surgical planning, aimed at reducing wait times and addressing the evolving demands of the province, region, and communities served by HHS.

Dr. Quereshy completed his residency training in general surgery and his fellowship in surgical oncology at the University of Toronto. He received his MBA at the Rotman School of Management. He subsequently pursued advanced robotic colorectal fellowship training at the Queen Mary Hospital, University of Hong Kong. His academic interests center on operations management and systems efficiency, with the aim of improving cost effectiveness and quality of care. Dr. Quereshy is an associate professor in the Department of Surgery and at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto.

Hilary Rodrigues
Executive Vice President, Corporate Affairs, Chief Administrative and Financial Officer

Hilary possesses over 30 years of professional experience in Ontario’s hospital sector. He previously served as interim President & CEO at Halton Healthcare and has held senior leadership roles at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, and Trillium Health Partners.

Throughout his career, Hilary has helped introduce innovative solutions to enhance administrative and clinical support functions, including finance, information technology, capital planning, diagnostic imaging, laboratory services, pharmacy, nutrition, and environmental services.

As a member of Hamilton Health Sciences’ Senior Leadership Team (SLT), Hilary oversees a range of key administrative functions and support services, including corporate services, capital development, health information technology services, legal services and privacy, finance, and internal audit.

Hilary holds CPA (Certified Professional Accountant) and CMA (Certified Management Accountant) designations. He earned a Master of Health Management from McMaster University and a Bachelor of Commerce and Finance Degree from the University of Toronto.

Hassan Asif
Interim Vice President, Health Information and Technology Services & Chief Information Officer

Hassan brings over 20 years of progressive professional and leadership experience in information systems, technology strategy, and digital transformation across multiple sectors ranging from finance, government, technology and healthcare.  

Hassan joined Hamilton Health Sciences in the beginning of 2024 as the Chief Technology Officer, and previously held senior leadership roles at the Descartes Systems Group and CarePartners.  He earned a Master of Management Sciences degree from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Houston-Downtown.

Hassan is passionate about building strong partnerships; and using technology and information systems to improve health outcomes in line with corporate strategy and business objectives.

Dr. Khalid Azzam
Dr. Khalid Azzam
Physician-in-Chief

Dr. Khalid Azzam is a Professor in the Department of Medicine at McMaster University. He holds an MBBS in medicine and surgery from the University of Rajasthan, India, and an MSc in Healthcare Quality and Safety Management (International Track) from the Jefferson College of Population Health at Thomas Jefferson University.

He is a Certified Physician Executive by the American Association for Physician Leadership. Dr. Azzam completed his Internal Medicine training from the University at Buffalo in 2002 and he is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada in Internal Medicine and General Internal Medicine.

Dr. Azzam joined the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University in 2008. He is involved in the continuum of medical education at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing health professions education. He previously served as the Assistant Dean for Continuing Health Sciences Education and most recently as the inaugural Associate Dean for Continuing Professional Development.

His clinical practice is focused on inpatient General Internal Medicine with time spent in the outpatient setting. He served as the Site Chief of Medicine at the Hamilton General Hospital for five years prior to assuming the responsibilities of the Physician-in-Chief.

Kelly Campbell
Vice President, Corporate Services and Capital Development

With a team of over 1200 staff, Kelly and her Directors manage all facility infrastructure, capital development and many support services across 5 hospital campuses. Kelly has led significant capital redevelopment over the years, most recently with the Our Healthy Future Master Plan as well as significant infrastructure renewal across all of Hamilton Health Sciences' sites. In previous roles, Kelly was the AVP of Clinical Planning providing oversight for transition planning and operational readiness prior to the implementation of Access to the Best Care, the largest clinical realignment in the organization’s history. Kelly currently serves on the board of the Mohawk Medbuy Corporation, the Healthcare Supply Chain Network and the HHS Volunteer Association.

Interim Surgeon-in-Chief

Dr. Denkers joined HHS in 2010 after studying medicine and undergoing his orthopedic surgery residency at McMaster University. He then completed surgical fellowships at the University of Calgary. He holds the position of Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at McMaster University.

Tim Dietrich
Vice President, Quality and Performance

Tim brings a distinguished academic background and a wealth of industry experience in quality improvement to his role as Vice President of Quality and Performance. He holds a Master’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Waterloo and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Wilfrid Laurier University. Prior to joining the Quality, Patient Safety and Clinical Resource management Program at HHS in 2009, Tim worked at ArcelorMittal Dofasco where he honed his expertise in quality improvement and project management. Tim is certified by the American Society for Quality as a Six Sigma Black Belt and Quality Engineer.

Leslie Gillies
Vice President, Post Acute Care, Clinical Practice and Education, Chief Nursing Executive

Leslie oversees key clinical program areas including Complex Care, Palliative, Geriatrics and Rehabilitation. She is also responsible for Post Acute HHS facilities  as  site VP supporting  St. Peter’s Hospital and the  Satellite Health Facility. Leslie has various experiences at HHS as a nurse, clinical educator, chief of nursing practice, chief of inter-professional practice, manager, program director and site administrator. She oversees and is accountable for Clinical Practice and Education at HHS.

Leslie holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from McMaster University and a Master’s of Education (Administration) from Brock University. She serves as a clinical faculty member at McMaster University’s School of Nursing as an Assistant Clinical Professor.

Anissa Hilborn

Anissa Hilborn is CEO of Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation (HHSF). Anissa brings more than 25 years’ experience in leadership roles with a focus on operational excellence and a donor-centred approach to fundraising. Before joining HHSF, Anissa served as President & CEO of the Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation in Burlington for 12 years. Previously, she served as Vice President at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) Foundation. She is also an active community volunteer. Anissa holds a degree from Western University and has achieved the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation since 2001. In 2015, she was recognized as the Outstanding Fundraising Professional by the AFP Golden Horseshoe Chapter.

Dr. Hillis is a malignant hematologist, Chief of Oncology at HHS, an associate professor at McMaster University and the current President of the Canadian Hematology Society.

Dr. Marc Jeschke
Vice President, Research & Innovation, and Chief Scientific Officer

Dr. Jeschke has world-renowned expertise in the field of translational research. He is a research leader with a proven ability to attract funding and grants from various national programs and agencies to advance innovative medical care in burns. Under his direction since 2010, the Ross Tilley Burn Centre (RTBC) at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre became a leading surgical and burn care institution in North America. Prior to being the Director of the RTBC, Dr. Jeschke held faculty positions at the University of Texas Medical Branch and Shriners Hospital for Children. There, in addition to his work as a surgeon, he coordinated research activities with a focus on increasing productivity and obtaining grants. Dr. Jeschke became an MD in Germany, moved to the United States and obtained a Master of Medical Science degree at the University of Texas, then returned to Germany to complete his PhD (Habilitation) in Experimental Surgery at the University of Regensburg in Bavaria.

Donna LaForce
Vice President, Strategy & Transformation, and Interim Vice President, Clinical Support Services & Surgery

Donna is a dedicated advocate for excellence and sustainability in healthcare. Over the course of her career at Hamilton Health Sciences, she has advanced through progressively senior leadership roles, successfully implementing operational and cultural transformations. Donna was accountable for reorganizing emergency services for children, which led to the opening of the region’s first dedicated pediatric emergency Department at McMaster Children’s Hospital (MCH). Additionally, she was instrumental in founding the Joyce Family Centre for Healthcare Innovation at McMaster Children’s Hospital, which continues to improve patient safety and care quality through evidence-based practices and international benchmarking.

Previously, Donna has led HHS’s strategic and transformational initiatives from the CEO’s office. In this capacity, she collaborates closely with HHS Board Directors and engages with internal and external stakeholders to ensure long-term organizational success.  Her innovative approaches and steadfast dedication to healthcare excellence have consistently driven positive change, benefiting patients and staff. Donna holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a Master of Business Administration, and a Post-Graduate Certification in Public Policy.

Aaron Levo
Vice President, People, Culture, & Communications

Aaron is a committed advocate for the people and mission of Hamilton Health Sciences. Since joining HHS in 2014, he has helped create engagement and change management strategies for many of the organization’s important operational and cultural transformations. He has led work focused on positive growth in the organization’s reputation and improving how our workforce stays engaged, both internally and with the public we serve. Aaron currently leads HHS’ teams for human resources, volunteer resources, communications and public affairs. During his career, he has held leadership roles at several national health organizations, including the Canadian Cancer Society and the Mental Health Commission of Canada, and has been a part of public policy advocacy to remove barriers to good health across the country.

Janet Ozembloski
Vice President, Legal Services & General Counsel

Janet brings her passion for the evolution and transformation of healthcare to Hamilton Health Sciences as its Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary. With more than two decades of extensive legal experience, Janet will have oversight of HHS’ legal affairs and board governance. Janet possesses a wide spectrum of expertise including health law, privacy, insurance, risk management, and patient and healthcare provider interactions. Janet also serves as a trusted advisor to the Board of Directors of Hamilton Health Sciences as its Corporate Secretary.

Janet joined HHS from the leading national law firm Borden Ladner Gervais (BLG). At BLG, she specialized in the negotiation of complex agreements while supporting hospitals and health sector organizations navigate the complex regulatory requirements associated with new and established healthcare ventures. Early in her career, Janet practiced as a litigation lawyer and also has experience in the oversight and management of litigation in various forums and jurisdictions. She has been recognized in Best Lawyers in Canada in Health Care Law and has extensive professional legal expertise in both private practice and as corporate counsel.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from Western University and two law degrees (JD and BCL) from McGill University. She was called to the Ontario Bar in 1997.

Rochelle Reid
Senior Lead & Strategic Advisor, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

Rochelle’s professional background includes fifteen years of co-creating fairer and more inclusive workplaces and communities through meaningful engagement and strategic planning. Rochelle also founded a consultancy company focused on helping organizations to enhance their strategic initiatives and operations through equity, diversity and inclusion. A life-long learner with credentials in coaching, service excellence, and accessibility, Rochelle is a graduate of both Mohawk College and George Brown College.

Bruce is an accomplished leader in Ontario’s healthcare sector and an advocate for patient safety and quality improvement. Prior to joining HHS he was VP, People, Strategy & Performance at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario where he led several successful patient safety initiatives, including implementation of the hospital’s continuous quality improvement management system. Formerly, Bruce was VP, Corporate Affairs at the Canadian Medical Association and CEO at the Newfoundland & Labrador Medical Association. Currently he is Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of Children’s Healthcare Canada and board member with the Ontario College of Family Physicians. Bruce holds an MBA from Dalhousie University and is a doctoral candidate at Carleton University’s Sprott School of Business.
