The Stroke Rehabilitation program is part of the Integrated Stroke Program at the Hamilton General Hospital. We provide high intensity rehabilitation to patients with stroke. Our average length of stay is 22-26 days and varies based on severity of the stroke and the individual’s achievable goals.

Patient Information
What to Bring: Pack 2 outfits of loose clothing (track pants, t-shirts, sweaters), running shoes (Velcro preferred) and socks, toiletries, special devices (labelled), and avoid bringing valuables.
Visitors: Family and friends are welcome. Visitors may need to step out during care & therapy.
Devices: You may use your cellular phone. Wi-Fi is available for a fee.
Outpatient Visits: Appointments with your doctor may occur before or after your hospital stay. Information will be provided during your hospital stay or at the time of discharge.
Patients on the Unit: B2 North is part of the Stroke Rehabilitation Program. You are transferred from 7 South or another hospital for specialized rehabilitation stroke care.
Meals: Breakfast in your room; other meals in the dining room.
Laundry: Patients/ families are responsible for their own Laundry.
TV and Telephones: Rental service available for bedside TV and phone. Ask a team member for details.
Equipment or Devices: Equipment to support your rehab needs such as wheelchairs and walkers may be loaned to you. These must remain on the unit upon discharge. The healthcare team will advise on how to rent, or purchase needed equipment for home use.

Eligibility & Referrals
- Patients who have had a stroke, or stroke like disease;
- Patients who are consenting for rehab and willing to participate;
- Patients who are able to learn and carry over knowledge;
- Patients who are able to tolerate 90 + mins of therapy per day;
- Medically stable; and
- Patients who have realistic and achievable functional goals.
