Our Team

Assessment and Planning

  • A referral is needed prior to being able to schedule an initial assessment 
  • Upon receiving your referral an appointment time will be scheduled at your earliest convenience

Orthotics Specific Information

  • A registered Orthotist will assess your needs
  • Based off of the initial assessment a treatment plan will be made, which may Include:
    • Casting to create a custom fit orthotic device 
    • Fitting, after the device has been produced (~3-4 weeks post-casting)
    • Follow-up

In-House Services

Prosthetics and Orthotics Department

  • Fitting, design, and manufacturing of prosthetics and orthotics by clinicians and technicians certified by the Canadian Board for Certification of Prosthetics and Orthotics 
    • All fitting, design, and manufacturing is done at Ron Joyce Children’s Health Centre
      • Allowing us to maintain the highest level of quality control for our devices
  • Out-patient services
  • Assessment, Casting, Fitting, and follow-ups for new devices
  • Existing device repair 
  • In-patient services 
  • Affiliated with Rehabilitation Clinic at Hamilton General Hospital
  • Casting, manufacturing, and fitting devices for in-patients
  • Financial Assistance Services
  • Customization/Design 
  • For orthotic devices, you are able to choose from a large selection of design options for your device
  • For prosthetic devices, any fabric of your choice can be laminated onto your device

Funding Application Assistance

General Information

  • Services provided by the Prosthetic and Orthotic Department at the Ron Joyce Children’s Health Centre in Hamilton are partially funded through the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care Assistive Devices Program (ADP)
  • The remaining balance may qualify for other sources of funding, including: Workplace Safety Insurance Board, War Amps of Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada, Ontario Disability Support Program, Non-Insured Health Benefits for First Nations/Inuit Health, Regional Social Services departments and private extended health benefits

Orthotics Specific Information

  • Following your Orthotist assessment an estimate will be provided
  • Financial assistants are there to support the patient through every step of the funding application process
  • Our financial assistants will advocate on your behalf to external funding agencies, including completing and submitting all necessary paperwork
  • With the help of our financial assistants, we will make sure you receive the maximum coverage available for your orthotic device
