Patients of the Unit

6 West is where most of the patients undergoing orthopedic and spinal surgery spend their time. Depending on your doctor’s judgment, patients may spend some time in an Intensive Care Unit or Step down unit before they are transferred to 6 west.

Patients come directly to the unit after their planned surgery. Additionally, Patients may come from the Emergency room or from an Intensive Care Unit. If there is another unit that may better suit the patient’s needs, like Orthopedics or Neurosurgery, they may go there.

  • The Doctor who did your surgery is most responsible for your care. He may ask other types of specialists to consult as well.
  • Doctors in training ( Residents and Clinical Fellows) who are training to be specialists.

Patient Information

Bring a current list of your medications every time you come to the hospital.

Bring toiletries, comfortable clothing and shoes you can walk in.

If you have private or semi-private coverage and/or you would like a private room, please advise us.

For more specific information, a booklet is available when you arrive to the unit.

Family Life

  • Family and friends may visit you in the hospital.
  • Visitors may be asked to step out of your room so that the staff may provide care to the patients in the room.
  • You may use your cellular phone. Wireless internet (WiFi) is available for a fee.
