Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) has opportunities for full-time, part-time and locum Anesthesiologists.

HHS is associated with DeGroote School of Medicine at McMaster University, Faculty of Health Sciences.

The HHS Department of Anesthesia provides patient-centered care across four sites. We are Ontario’s most comprehensive healthcare system, with more than 1,100 beds.

Surgical services supported by the Department of Anesthesia include pediatric and neonatal surgery with one of the largest neonatal intensive care units in Canada, women’s health surgery, high risk obstetrics, neurosurgery and neurointerventional procedures, cardiac surgery with its ancillary interventional procedures, vascular surgery, hepatobiliary and general surgery, major orthopedic surgery, urology and plastic surgery that includes burn trauma unit support.

We also support regional adult and pediatric trauma centres. Acute, transitional and chronic pain programs are delivered in affiliation with The Michael DeGroote Pain Clinic.

Our academic mission supports both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education as well as clinical and basic sciences research. McMaster University Faculty of Health Sciences consistently ranks among the highest in Canada in terms of the research impact.

As well, McMaster University is one of the most highly cited universities nationally and internationally.


Interested applicants must have or be eligible for certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and be eligible for a licence to practice in Ontario. Applicants must also satisfy the credentialing requirements of Hamilton Health Sciences.

Remuneration and work distribution

All members of the HHS Department of Anesthesia are remunerated for their clinical work by fee-for-service according to the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care Schedule of Benefits.

McMaster University remunerates for academic work and has a benefit program for Geographic Full Time Faculty. The HHS Department of Anesthesia is committed to the fair and equitable distribution of work assignments.

Both, full-time and part-time members of the department are expected to participate in the calls, according to their specific privileges. Locum Anesthesiologists do not participate in the call schedule.
