Chest Wall Anomalies Surgery Clinic

The Pediatric General Surgery team provides specialized surgical services to children and adolescents suffering from congenital malformations of the chest.

The philosophy at McMaster Children’s Hospital is to provide family-centred care. We believe in using the most advanced surgical techniques to help treat our patients in a caring and compassionate.

Care We Provide

  • Specialized surgical services to children and adolescents suffering from congenital malformations of the chest.
  • The most common disorders are Pectus Excavatum (sunken chest) and Pectus Carinatum (pushed out chest).
  • We have one of the largest experiences in Canada with surgical correction of Pectus Excavatum using the Nuss Procedure.

What to Bring

  • Your child’s Health Card. The Ministry of Health and Long Term Care requires us to validate your health card at every clinic visit.
  • If your child has had x-ray studies done outside of the McMaster Children’s Hospital it is important to bring the films and/or report of the x-rays please bring them to your first appointment.
  • Any notes or questions that you may have.

Note: If your child is ill with any antibiotic resistant organism, MRSA, a communicable disease (such as Chicken Pox), or a respiratory infection, please notify reception staff prior to your scheduled appointment.

Team Members

Our team includes surgeons, an advanced practice nurse, and an orthotic specialist.

Referral Process

The referral process is made through a direct referral from a pediatrician or family doctor to a specialist.  Referrals can be faxed directly to clinic.  Referral Form.
