Discovery Days in Health Sciences
DATE: June 3, 2021
LOCATION: We’re going virtual!
WE’RE GOING VIRTUAL!…Join us June 3, 2021
While so much of our world has changed due to COVID-19, our commitment to outreach and program delivery remains the same. Although we can’t be onsite for an in-person event this year, we invite high school students and teachers to meet us online to explore careers in medicine and the health sciences.
Our modified virtual half-day program that we are jointly hosting with The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame will take place 8:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. This virtual symposium promises to provide an engaging discovery experience through interactive peer networking, games, exhibits, keynote lecture, stimulating workshops and a career panel discussion. As always, participants will have the opportunity to select their own workshop (catalogue currently under development). Please note that, although our delivery model has been adapted temporarily, the program is still considered an individual learning opportunity and workshop spaces continue to be limited. As we have in the past, we ask you to identify Grade 9-11 students interested in science to attend the event.
What you will need
Participants will require access to a computer, headphones, video capabilities (optional), internet connection and a quiet space. This may mean they attend virtually from home that morning or are in front of a computer in a dedicated space at school.
For more information view the agenda and student workshop catalogue.
Register your school by May 6th to express an interest to have students register. Student and teacher registration will be open from May 13th through May 28th. Workshop spaces are limited. As always, registration is on a first-come, first serve basis. There will be no limit on the number of students per school this year.
Register online through the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame website.
Discovery Days in Health Sciences is a one-day symposium designed to attract high school students across Ontario in grades 10-12 who are considering a career in Health Sciences. Students benefit from an inspiring keynote speaker and exposure to interactive workshops and/or laboratory or clinical demonstrations that are lead by mentors from various healthcare professions, including undergraduate and graduate students. Upon completion of the day, students leave with a better understanding of the far-reaching opportunities a career in health sciences could hold for them.
The target audience for this event is students, teachers and guidance counselors. If you are a healthcare professional interested in becoming a mentor for a Discovery Day event, please email Donna Catherwood at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Discovery Days in Health Sciences is hosted in partnership with the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame and McMaster University Health Sciences.
