Community can show support for health care by signing petition
HAMILTON, ON – Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) has a plan to strengthen and prepare our health system to meet the needs of all patients for years to come.
This includes replacing aging hospital infrastructure with modern environments so that there is enough space, staff and doctors, and equipment to meet the growing and evolving demands for care in our region.
You can support this plan by signing an online petition to support the redevelopment of HHS’ Juravinski Hospital. By adding your name, you are sending a clear message that health care matters. The petition can be found online at https://www.change.org/p/hamilton-supports-a-new-juravinski-hospital-it-s-time-to-rebuild.
“Hospitals are the backbone of our community, providing life-saving care when individuals need it most. But aging hospital buildings are making it harder for healthcare workers to do their jobs,” says HHS President and CEO Tracey MacArthur. “It’s time to invest in the future of not only health care, but our community as well. It’s time to rebuild the oldest parts of Juravinski Hospital – and we need your help.”
The oldest section of JH – M Wing – was built nearly a century ago. Hospital rooms in JH’s old wards are small, cramped, and mostly shared with up to four people to a room. Washrooms in the old section’s rooms are so small, patients using walkers need to back in – and some rooms are so small they can only accommodate accordion-style doors instead of standard size doors. These are just a few of the challenges of the current space.
HHS is grateful to the government of Ontario for committing $1 billion to this redevelopment project. Now, we need the City of Hamilton to help bring it across the finish line.
Just think: 15 years from now, we could have a new and expanded hospital or one that is 115 years old. Which would you prefer?
