New West Lincoln Memorial Hospital to open in October

HAMILTON, ON – Construction of the new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital (WLMH) is steadily progressing and the new hospital will open on or around October 27, 2025 – exactly 76 years to the month of the existing hospital opening on the site.

The project is a little more than two months out from substantial completion, which is a significant project milestone where Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) gets the keys to the new facility and can start final preparations toward officially opening. Substantial completion is scheduled for on or around July 21, 2025.

“The new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital is a testament to the dedication of our community,” says Tracey MacArthur, president & CEO, HHS. “Together, we’ve built more than a hospital – we’ve built a future for local, high quality care that will serve generations to come.”

Following substantial completion, HHS will move equipment and supplies into the building and train staff and physicians on new technology over 13 weeks, allowing them to familiarize themselves with the space before patients move into the space.

”This day has been a long-time coming for our community,” says Sam Oosterhoff, MPP for Niagara West. “This is such exciting news for all the community advocates, volunteers, staff, and leaders who have worked hard to make this day a reality. I’m thankful for all who have worked to make our new WLMH a reality, and I am grateful to have played a small role in advancing our new hospital. I am confident this beautiful new facility and the amazing staff who will work in it, will serve families and patients in Niagara West for generations to come.”

Like every new hospital in Ontario, the new WLMH will open gradually under the guidance of the Ministry of Health, following the government’s established process for post-construction operating planning. This allows HHS and the Ministry to work together to assess patient volumes. The new hospital will be almost 80-per-cent larger than the existing facility providing opportunity for service growth potential over time, which will be considered through this assessment process.

The Government of Ontario, West Niagara and regional municipalities, the broader community and HHS have invested heavily in the hospital’s success, building a brand new asset in the region’s health landscape to serve the growing region into the future.

“The new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital is a major step forward for health care in West Niagara,” says Bruce Squires, VP Women’s and Children’s Health at HHS and WLMH Site Executive. “This modern facility will give staff and physicians the space, tools, and technology they need to continue delivering exceptional care to a growing community.”
