Artificial Intelligence is revolutionizing every i

Artificial Intelligence is revolutionizing every industry, including health care where it’s creating better and faster care for both patients and doctors. For example, with AI it’s now possible for all the notes from your doctor’s appointment to be automatically and securely entered into a computer based on your conversation. And medications can be customized and ordered instantly. But with such advancements come careful considerations. What’s the appropriate use of AI in health care? How is it best used for clinical decision-making? And what guidelines and guardrails should health care put in place to ensure AI is safe?

Leaders at Hamilton Health Sciences are working on answering all of those questions. And through this process, our hospital has earned a reputation as an international leader in introducing AI into health-care settings safely, responsibly and ethically.

The chief architect behind this accomplishment is Dr. Jeremy Petch, director of Hamilton Health Sciences' Centre for Data Science and Digital Health (CREATE).

Congratulations to one of our oncologists and @ecr

Congratulations to one of our oncologists and @ecri_research researcher, Dr. Hira Mian! She has been awarded the prestigious Dr. Ralph Meyer Phase III Young Investigator Award from Canadian Cancer Trials Group.

Her study on a treatment for a rare blood cancer has the potential to benefit patients not only across Canada, but around the world.

About 4,000 people are diagnosed with multiple myeloma in Canada each year and they continuously receive treatment while in remission.

For the current standard of care, patients maintain a three-drug regimen for five years. This means they’re travelling to a hospital every month for a treatment by IV or injection.

The trial divides patients into two groups. One group will receive the standard treatment of monthly IV or injection and two oral medications for five years. The other group will stop the IV or injection treatments after 18 months, with close monitoring, and continue with the oral medications.

The belief is that 18 months of the IV medication will be as effective as five years.
