A message to our community

Hamilton Health Sciences staff and doctors are working very hard to safely meet the needs of everyone who comes through our doors. More than ever, we ask for the patience and support of our community as we navigate these challenging times.

COVID-related hospitalizations are again on the rise, and we are also experiencing increased demand for many hospital services. Hospital occupancy is very high – almost always over 100% during the last two months. This is due to many factors, including a rise in seasonal illness and injuries and a rise in serious illness within the communities we serve.

The unfortunate consequences of the high demand for hospital services can include increased wait times, and the postponement of appointments and procedures. This happens because we simply don’t have the space and resources required to help everyone at the same time. We know this can be incredibly stressful for patients, their families, and our healthcare teams.

Still, our commitment to provide safe, high quality care remains. Our teams are doing their very best to provide the level of care that our patients deserve.

We ask for your continued patience, kindness, and support as we navigate these difficult times.

As a reminder, there are many healthcare options in our community. Unless you are experiencing a medical emergency, consider the following resources before visiting an emergency department:

  1. Your family doctor, for health concerns that can wait a day or more.
  2. An urgent care centre, for health concerns that are not life-threatening but can’t wait for a doctor’s appointment.

Thank you.
