HHS receives “gold standard” ranking by Accreditation Canada

For the second consecutive time, Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) is Accredited with Exemplary Standing. HHS was one of the first hospitals in Canada to achieve this ranking by Accreditation Canada in 2012.

“This is the gold standard in health care,” says President & CEO Rob MacIsaac. “I’m so proud that the staff and physicians of HHS have been recognized by Accreditation Canada for the excellent services and care they provide every day in our hospitals and clinics. That we have some of Canada’s top healthcare professionals right here in Hamilton is a point of pride for our entire community. It also signals that future health care providers and researchers will be trained to be at the top of their fields.”

“This is the gold standard in health care.”

Accreditation Canada also awarded HHS for seven “leading practices” recognizing the national significance of the following innovative initiatives that drive high-quality care and service delivery:

1. Promoting compassion, resilience and engagement through mindfulness interventions
2. The Hamilton Early Warning Score: Improved safety through attention to abnormal vital signs
3. Peripherally inserted central catheter resources centre
4. Augmentative and Alternative Communication Service in Intensive Care Unit
5. Death & adverse event review process
6. Remodeling critical care: A strategy to mobilize intensive care unit patients and reduce harm
7. Toolkit for safe implementation of insulin pens

“These are practices that demonstrate our commitment to continuous quality improvement, our use of research evidence, and our pursuits to solve problems in transformational ways with greater positive impacts for the people we serve” says Kirsten Krull, vice president, quality and performance, and chief nursing executive, HHS.
