An update on the COVID-19 outbreaks at the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre

NEWS RELEASE
Monday, December 14, 2020

HAMILTON, ON – Five units remain under an outbreak declaration at the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre (JHCC). They are the E4 and M2 wards (outbreak declared on Dec. 11), the F5 unit (Dec. 6), B3 (Dec. 4) and E3 (Dec. 3). The outbreaks have occurred at the Juravinski Hospital section of the JHCC.

The cases that can be directly linked to the outbreaks in total, so far, are:
• 30 patients (13 remain at the JHCC)
• 30 staff members and physicians (including residents)
• Two learners

The patients no longer at the site have either been discharged or transferred to another care setting. In addition, less than five patients linked to the outbreak have since passed away. We extend our deepest condolences to their loved ones.

No visitors are currently allowed on the units in outbreaks except on compassionate grounds.

Steps are in place to maintain the safety of these areas and patients should continue to attend their appointments at the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre to receive the care they need.

Inpatient care for specialized cancer treatment is being maintained and all patients are receiving their intended care.

Due to the spread of COVID-19 in our community, we have revised our visiting guidelines. Visitors and caregivers should check hamiltonhealthsciences.ca, or the appropriate unit, for information.
