Children’s Health Centre phased reopening starts this week

The Ron Joyce Children’s Health Centre (RJCHC) reopened Monday, August 10, 2020 for limited in-person care. Hamilton Health Sciences is taking a phased approach and the goal is to begin to safely offer face-face clinical activity that has not been available through virtual care.

“We are looking forward to gradually welcoming clients and families back to the RJCHC,” said Lori Issenman, RJCHC Site Director.

All RJCHC programs have identified priority on-site clinical activity for this initial phase. RJCHC programs include:

  • Prosthetics and Orthotics
  • Developmental Pediatric Rehabilitation
  • Child and Youth Mental Health Program
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder Service

Clinics are gradually rescheduling some appointments and procedures that were cancelled due to COVID-19, starting with urgent cases. The hospital will contact families and clients when we are ready to reschedule your appointment. Thank you for your patience.

New screening, masking, distancing and visitor guidelines

The Hamilton Health Sciences Infection Protection and Control team has been a key partner in the RJCHC reopening plan. We have introduced new signage on the floors and walls, wayfinding and the new ‘flow’ of the clinical spaces. Together with a new screening booth at the main entrance, these measures help everyone to maintain physical distancing, support hand hygiene and universal masking.

RJCHC programs will also continue to provide virtual care and we are working to continue to safely expand resumption of essential in-person services in the coming months.

New outpatient visitor guidelines are in place. Pediatric and Child and Youth Mental Health outpatients are allowed one parent/caregiver to attend the visit with the patient.
