Investigating the impact of the pandemic on children and youth

A Canadian team of researchers led by Dr. Kathy Georgiades at the Offord Centre for Child Studies, a joint research institute of Hamilton Health Sciences’ McMaster Children’s Hospital and McMaster University, has received $3.1 million from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) to study the impact of COVID-19 pandemic measures on children and youth in Canada with the goal of helping young people recover from the pandemic.

“This is a significant study and investment in children and youth,” says Bruce Squires, President of McMaster Children’s Hospital. “The pandemic has had significant consequences on access to timely care and children are having to wait longer than ever for treatment and surgeries. This study will help to improve the delivery of physical and mental health services to support the health and wellbeing of children across the country. We are grateful to the federal government for this support.”
