Hamilton Health Sciences reflects on one year of the COVID-19 pandemic: A message from Rob MacIsaac, President & CEO

HAMILTON, ON – Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) is reflecting on the year that has passed since the WHO declared a global pandemic for COVID-19.  It has been a year like no other and this pandemic has demanded a lot from each of us. We have experienced loss and change to varying degrees, and without a doubt, it has profoundly impacted everyone.

During this past year, HHS has continued to safely care for patients while responding to the pandemic. I would like to thank the staff, leaders, physicians, volunteers and learners who rose to the challenge of meeting the needs of our patients, their families and our communities.

We have changed how we do our work, how we go about our daily lives, and the ways we interact with one other.

In addition to providing care for COVID-positive patients, our hospital team worked with many partners to efforts to establish vital new clinics for testing, assessment and vaccine distribution, support care in long-term care and retirement homes, advance the use of technology for care in new ways, and so much more.

This year has been full of challenges and has taken a toll on the lives of our patients, their families, and our team.

While we aren’t yet out of the woods, we are nonetheless looking forward to the future with renewed optimism as vaccines start to become widely available, and to building on the remarkable work we have done this past year emerging stronger, together.

Thank you.
