Man re-learns to walk with help of baclofen pump and rehab

John Spironello was experiencing weakness and spasms in his legs for months. An MRI revealed a tumour was pressing on John’s spinal cord, causing damage.

This month, orthopedic surgeons at our Juravinski

This month, orthopedic surgeons at our Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre performed their first hip replacement surgery using a new, state-of-the-art orthopedic surgical robot designed specifically for hip and knee replacements.

Earlier this year, Dr. Ian Jones was working as a resident in the Hamilton General Hospital’s intensive care unit. In the staff break room, he snacked on a piece of chocolate that, unbeknownst to him, contained peanuts.

He started to have difficulty breathing and signaled for help. He knew he was experiencing serious allergic reaction.

Staff rushed for the anaphylaxis kit to help him breathe - a kit Jones had helped to create as a Continuous Quality Improvement project five years earlier while working as a medical student.
