Update – Decommissioning of the Hamilton Mobile Health Unit

Hamilton, ON – Ontario is seeing positive signs that progress is being made against COVID-19, and as such, the Ministry of Health has directed Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) to begin decommissioning the Hamilton Mobile Health Unit (MHU).

The MHU is one of two temporary field hospitals built in Ontario to alleviate pressure on the provincial healthcare system caused by the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. A tremendous amount of work went into planning, constructing, staffing and equipping the state-of-the-art temporary hospital space. Hundreds of people were involved and HHS is proud to have been part of this pandemic response initiative.

“We are grateful to everyone at HHS, and our community, regional, provincial and federal partners for working expeditiously to prepare the MHU and ensure our healthcare system was ready to serve patients from across Ontario if needed,” said Kelly Campbell, Vice President, Corporate Services and Capital Development.

The process to remove the structure and restore the space to a parking lot is expected to be complete in September.
