2020 Celebrations: Transformation & Technology
Hamilton Health Sciences expanding instance of Epic to enable more integrated, patient-centred health care
This multi-year project will enable significant advancements in the safety and efficiency of health service delivery at one of the province’s largest hospital networks. Read.
This past year, Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) started a journey to transform the way we provide care to achieve our vision of Best Care for All. We took bold steps, investing in new technology and new processes essential for meeting the changing needs and expectations of the people we serve. The stories in this section demonstrate our commitment to transformation — in the way our system embraced opportunities to deliver virtual care and in the ways we secured partnerships to enhance patient care.
In January, HHS signed a landmark agreement to replace and manage our extensive fleet of diagnostic and imaging equipment. We began posting live wait time data for our emergency departments and urgent care centres, alongside local partner St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton (SJHH), so patients could make informed decisions on where to seek care. We also maintained academic partnerships when some of our buildings closed due to the pandemic, so students could continue their placements in a virtual setting.
We made strides in virtual care to offer high quality, safe care to patients and families outside of the hospital environment, by phone or electronically. This work is adding new value every day – increasing our ability to innovate and deliver compassionate, high quality care, even in times of crisis.
Finally, one of our biggest and most recent milestones was to take the next step toward clinical transformation by renewing our hospital information system, putting HHS on a common platform with many world-leading healthcare organizations.
