Up Close: Radiation Therapy

Radiation therapy at Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre is an important aspect of cancer treatment. Our team serves the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant Local Health Integration Network and provides radiation therapy services for all cancer types as the primary mode for treatment or in conjunction with surgery and/or chemotherapy. The radiation therapy department is a large facility by world standards with 10 linear accelerators, one Cyberknife radiosurgery unit, an orthovoltage unit used to treat superficial skin cancers and a brachytherapy (internal therapy) unit. The staff consists of 110 radiation therapists, working alongside 24 Radiation Oncologists, 12 Medical Physicists and one mould room technician. Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre currently delivers approximately 8,000 courses of treatment per year. Take a look inside.
