Clinical Chemistry

The HRLMP Clinical Chemistry and Immunology (CCI) labs are located at the Hamilton General Hospital and McMaster University Medical Centre. CCI provides critical lab results that serve as the basis of diagnosis and treatment. A hub of innovation and research, CCI has helped introduce new tests into the community, bolstered the services at local clinics, and helped support other communities across Ontario and the country.

Biochemical Genetics

The Biochemical Genetics Laboratory is a regional laboratory that provides diagnostic and monitoring services for inherited metabolic disorders.

The laboratory is located at McMaster University Medical Centre and includes faculty certified in biochemical genetics by the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists.

The laboratory provides routine metabolic testing/monitoring including organic acid, amino acid, and acylcarnitine analysis. It also provides specialized testing for cholesterol biogenesis, peroxisomal, purine and pyrimidine disorders. Most methodologies utilize chromatography and/or mass spectrometry.

Clinical Chemistry and Immunology

The Clinical Chemistry and Immunology Laboratory provides specialized testing including protein electrophoresis, immunosuppressive drugs, endocrinology, trace metals, allergy, autoimmune, lymphocyte subsets, immunological markers, immunodeficiency, and toxicology.

This laboratory is located at the Hamilton General Hospital. The laboratory consists of a team of clinical chemists, immunologists, toxicologists, and medical laboratory technologists. This laboratory is largely involved with the Laboratory Reference Centre, conducting 75 per cent of their testing.

They rely on macroscopic (gross) and microscopic observations. Other forensic testing includes molecular tests, chemical analysis for drugs, toxicology, metabolic and ultra-structural tests.
