Message from the Chair

I was born and raised in Hamilton and lived in the Bay Area my entire life. My mother gave birth to me in a local hospital. Members of my extended family have received healthcare services here for about 70 years.

During my lifetime of exposure to the healthcare system I have noticed two main themes. Firstly, we have good and talented people caring for us. They come to their vocations with passion, diligence, and a spirit of good will. Secondly, the system within which they work is stressed, underfunded and significantly challenged. I believe that this second observations will only become more significant and pronounced unless things change and the system is transformed.

I’m an optimist by nature. As such, I firmly believe that we can all work together – users of the system, all levels of government, community groups, healthcare providers, social services agencies and other stakeholders – to build a new healthcare world that is sustainable and puts the patients and families we serve at the forefront.

My optimistic belief is emboldened by the plans and people we have in place as we face a crossroads. Our plans are ambitious and achievable with the right resources. Our Healthy Future is the cornerstone of our vision for the future. We are striving towards a healthcare system that leverages technology and the latest and best equipment to make the patient journey more enriched while easing the burden on overworked healthcare staff and lightening the financial load on our institutions. Our people are highly skilled and dedicated. They are the best there is. Hamilton Health Sciences is a world leader in the delivery of high quality healthcare and is admired by our peer organizations around the country and the globe.

As Chair of the Hamilton Health Sciences Board of Directors, I am privileged to be able to work with a team of volunteer directors who come from varied backgrounds and who each bring their unique skills, talents, and gifts to bear on the weighty issues that come before us. Because of this intelligent, compassionate, and generous group, my role as Chair is enhanced and eased. We work hand-in-hand to oversee our senior management team under the very able leadership of our President & CEO, Rob MacIsaac.

On behalf of the Hamilton Health Sciences Board of Directors, we look forward to continuing to serve you and provide the Best Care for All.

Sincerely,

Charles Criminisi
Chair, Hamilton Health Sciences Board of Directors
