About the Department
Welcome to the Department of Pediatrics at McMaster University, affiliated with McMaster Children’s Hospital. Our department is one of Canada’s leading centres in pediatric health care. Our faculty enjoy access to modern medical and surgical facilities, clinical and research laboratories. The mission of the Department of Pediatrics is to improve the health of children and adolescents through the excellence in patient care, research and teaching. This mission is embraced by our faculty and staff who are deeply committed to the well-being of our young patients. The Department of Pediatrics is one component of a diverse and dynamic medical community within the Hamilton region. We are proud to serve the children and families of our area.

About the Chief – Dr. Angelo Mikrogianakis
Dr. Angelo Mikrogianakis was appointed Chief of Pediatrics at McMaster Children’s Hospital and St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton in December 2018.
Preceding this appointment, Dr. Mikrogianakis served as Section Chief and Medical Director of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Alberta Children’s Hospital since 2009. Dr Mikrogianakis earned his medical degree from the University of Western Ontario in 1997 and completed his pediatric residency in 2001 and fellowships in pediatric emergency medicine and trauma in 2003 with the University of Ottawa at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario.
Dr Mikrogianakis’ clinical and teaching skills have established him nationally as an expert in pediatric emergency medicine, pediatric critical care transport, pediatric trauma management and pediatric disaster response. He has also made ongoing contributions to research as a principal investigator, co-investigator, collaborator, enabler and builder of research teams and infrastructure within the emergency department of Alberta Children’s Hospital, and plans to continue this in his new role at McMaster Children’s Hospital.
