About the Department

The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation supports approximately 120 acute rehabilitation beds, which are co-located on the campuses of the acute care hospitals. Hamilton Health Sciences’ specialized rehabilitation programs treat people with spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, orthopedic conditions, and cancer. Its large prosthetics and orthotics program includes an in-house manufacturing facility. The department supports one of the largest residency training programs in Canada.
